Which Book Should I Write?

Most people who are called to write a book have many books inside them. Often, they are overwhelmed by them. They come to me with questions: Which idea is better, which one makes more sense, which one should I write?

The simple answer is that they are all worth writing. They have called you, and they want to be born.

Oh, dear. That doesn’t help.

The longer answer is that you don’t have to say NO to any of them, but you can say YES to ONE of them for RIGHT NOW.

Saying yes to a book idea does not mean that you will never write the others. It means only that you are opening the channel for this book to come through you in a good way, in good time, and that when it is complete, then you can listen to the others.

So, then, the next question is: Okay, which one is first.

Bad news: I can’t answer that for you. Good news: You have the answers already inside you. Here are some questions to help you find them:

  1. Why am I writing a book? What is the most important thing that can happen as a result of it  being birthed? What is the biggest, juiciest, most spectacular thing I can imagine this book changing in the world? And what could it change in my life?

  2. Who is this book for? Imagine you’re on a plane. Someone gets on and sits beside you. You chat briefly and immediately you know THIS is the person you wrote this book for. THIS is the person you can help the most. THIS is the person whose life you are going to change. Describe them.

  3. What will the book be? Equipped with your why and your who, you can now begin to feel, deeply what the book needs to be, in order to speak to the person it needs to speak to. Allow yourself to breathe and listen to what your own self is telling you. What the book will look like, feel like, and what it will contain.

These are the same questions I ask every author in our North Star sessions. They are the same questions I offer in my book Claim Your Voice. They are the power questions that will bring you to the very heart of your book and give you the clarity you need to say YES to the book that most needs to be born from you at this moment in time.

From these questions, you can formulate a statement, your North Star Statement, that becomes the guiding light for the rest of the project.

Try it. Let me know what you discover.

If you need a little nudge or help accessing your wisdom or a next step, my first 30 minute consultation is a free gift, offered from my heart. Not a sales call, I will never even mention paid programs unless you ask. A gift. Because I believe in you and I am called to help you.
